WTE, or waste to energy, is a process which helps to recover energy from rubbish that is normally thrown away. This is an incredibly important area of our work, as the consumption habits of the modern consumer mean that our throw-away society is generating in excess of 27 million tonnes of mixed household waste a year. Re-Gen Waste is helping local councils find a positive outcome for this problem, instead of the traditional landfill solution which is no longer an option for a sustainable greener future.
How can we help?
Re-Gen have developed a number of innovative processes to recover energy from the different waste streams. We do this in a number of ways:
- We recover any potentially recyclable material from the waste we handle
- We harness any energy from the residual waste
- Prepared waste in the form of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) to provide to waste to energy plants where it is burned to recover the energy in the form of heat for generating electricity and to heat homes via district heating systems
- Waste sent to landfill after these processes is dramatically reduced
Prepared waste in the form of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) is supplied to Waste to Energy (WtE) plants in Europe where it is burned to recover the energy in the form of heat for generating electricity and to heat homes via district heating systems.
Refuse Derived Fuels (RDF) - so what is it exactly?
Refuse derived fuel (RDF) is produced from domestic waste which is otherwise known as municipal solid waste (MSW).
We sort incoming waste in our state of the art processing plant to remove recyclable material and unwanted items.
Of this remaining waste stream, the biodegradable materials are landfilled, and the remainder of the high calorific materials are then baled and wrapped. We can tailor the RDF produced, based on customer’s requirements.
These bales are then shipped to WTE plants across Europe, where they are burned to generate heat and power to serve local communities.
Providing the definitive solution - so, how do we do it?
Our full service waste management solution means we can handle everything, from start to finish. Because we are concerned with reducing our carbon footprint, we want to make sure that this process and delivery fulfilment is as environmentally responsible too.
Delivery of RDF by truck is taken to Warrenpoint, just 11 km from our production facility.
Bulk vessels capable of handling up to 4500 tonnes deliver this material to the quay in the nearest post to the WTE plant to reduce any unnecessary transport and keep the carbon footprint from logistics minimal
We don’t like to create any unnecessary disturbances for the local communities affected either, so we handle loading and transportation outside normal working hours.
Should you have any requirements for materials of this type please contact us at any time.
We're experts in producing and delivering RDF, and provide our customers with tailor-made solutions, alternative delivery methods when requested and an unrivalled professional service.
