Part of living a more sustainable lifestyle is getting into excellent habits that you can maintain with enough practice. Like any habits, you can maximise their potential by starting as soon as you wake up. If you’re not sure how to get into these habits, though, here are some useful tips on how to start off your day the green way.
Eliminate Food Waste
They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It gives you the energy you need to focus and be productive, but if you’re prone to making too much, it’s time to cut back. Making too much food means you might not have time to eat it all, or you feel too full halfway through. If you only whip up what you can eat and don’t waste food, you’ve already started your day better than yesterday.
Don’t Waste Water
Running water is a massive contributor to wastage, whether that’s in the shower or when running the tap. Try not to take showers that are too long (and avoid baths altogether), and also turn the tap off between rinsing your brush, so you don’t waste water running down the plughole.
Getting to Work
If you live in a big city, you don’t need to drive to work every day. Instead, take public transport, or cycle to work if the weather permits. The emissions from ‘just one more care’ may not seem significant, but when everyone thinks like that, it becomes a problem.
