5 ways our vehicle fleet is helping us combat waste
Our indispensable vehicle fleet is responsible for transporting recyclable materials from across the UK and Ireland back to our state of the art facility in Newry, so that the contents can be sorted and transformed from waste to energy. Having the right transport and trailers in place is crucial to our continuing success, and of course as we’re in the business of recycling and improving the environment, we need a transport solution that reflects these values as well. Here are the 5 crucial ways our vehicle fleet is helping us to combat waste by being an essential part of the waste management cycle.
Our waste collection trucks and trailers are high capacity vehicles, meaning they can carry more waste with each journey and this means fewer trips are required which cuts down on carbon emissions. Customers all over the UK and Ireland can rest assured that we have the right size vehicle to satisfy their waste management needs. Recent additions to the fleet include new trailers at a maximum legal height of 4.65m, and with their additional capacity they will both lower carbon emissions and have reduced fuel consumption.
- New trailers
We have recently expanded our company owned vehicle fleet even further, by taking receipt of new 45 new trailers over the past 12 months to reflect the growing demand for our services and the increase in the number of customers and councils we work with.
- Environmentally friendly features
Our most recent additions to our vehicle fleet are new Volvo Euro VI trucks which continue to make operations as ‘green’ as possible thanks to their key environmental benefits. These include low emissions engines, fuel conservation, forward facing camera and radar to reduce the possibility of collisions, and Volvo’s new AEB system which will automatically brake the truck to avoid a crash.
- On demand services
Our extensive vehicle fleet means we are expertly positioned to provide on demand services that some of our competitors can’t manage. These services include an on demand MDR collection and recycling service to non-contracted councils across the UK and Ireland, emergency cover when existing facilities become unavailable (for both long and short term needs), and taking on overflow during peak times such as Christmas when there is a significant increase in waste volumes.
- Vehicle efficiency
Our transport manager has everything timed to perfection, so that we know exactly where our trucks are and how best to use our fleet to achieve maximum efficiency. We don’t believe in wasting resources so having this tight control over our fleet means we’re not wasting fuel or increasing carbon emissions unnecessarily – just another simple way out vehicle fleet is helping us combat waste.
